USA Tariffs Info
March 2026
The short story...
We ship to the USA!
To make it easy to shop at That Pedal Show Store we ship with your import taxes pre-paid on most of our products. This ensures parcels arrive at your door without any extra fees payable.
To cover your extra import taxes, we have increased most of our product prices to include this up front, so we can pay it to the US Government for you.
Please note there are a few exceptions, like the Redwing pedal where we have not done this and you will be liable for all US taxes, duties and import charges. On any products where we do not include the import duties, we will always make it clear in the product description if you will be liable for any additional fees for any specific product, so you know before you order. If in doubt, please just email us and we'll be glad to help!
Are the Tariffs now illegal?
Yes and no. The new, random and often 'fluid' tariffs for goods from different countries implemented in August 2025 were rejected in Spring 2026 by the US Supreme Court.
However, import tariffs/taxes have always existed so currently (although it changes daily) import tariffs have reverted to a standard (and legal) flat-rate of 10% (March 2026).
But why do I have have to pay any tariff/taxes? I didn't used to....
The key thing to be aware of is that in August 2025, the implementation of the Government's new tariffs also coincided with the decision to remove something called 'De Minimis' which means that everyone importing anything into the USA now has to pay a tariff (or tax) to the US Government.
Prior to this, the De Minimis rule allowed everyone in the US to receive goods up to $800/day without paying any taxes/duties or tariffs.
The slightly longer story...
What is De Minimis?
For many years there was a 'De Minimis' program in place for low-value goods arriving in the USA.
This allowed goods valued at less than US$800 per person, per day, to enter the US duty free.
What changed?
On 29th August 2025, the De Minimis threshold was removed by the US Government. This means that all goods entering the USA are taxable by the US Customs Department.
There are new US tariffs for every country in the world, so if you're based in the USA, everything you buy from outside the USA will be subject to additional duties and taxes.
Duties MUST be paid to US Customs when the goods enter the USA (excludes items over $2500 which are subject to other fees).
How do the new duties/taxes work?
On most products we sell, we will pay all the fees on your behalf.
In this case, parcels will get processed and delivered to you using the DDP (Delivery Duty Paid) method with all duties paid in advance by us, so your parcel should arrive at your door without any extra fees to pay locally.
However, all these extra duty/tariff costs for US shipments result in higher prices in our store for US customers as these taxes have to be added to the cost of the merchandise we sell.
For any goods where we are unable to pay the extra duty/tariff costs on your behalf (eg. Redwing), the courier will deal with US Customs and notify you directly of the additional import fees you have to pay. Duty will be calculated based on the cost of the goods, the shipping costs, any insurance costs, plus extra tariffs are payable on each item in the parcel - this will be calculated based on the 'country of origin' of each item.
When shipping via couriers like Fedex and UPS, they charge additional 'admin fees' for managing all the duty payments to US Customs on your behalf. This fee varies and is in addition to the US Customs fees.
How can I support TPS if I can't buy merch?
